Shyling is a generic term common in the setting, broadly encompassing all sorts of aberrant creatures. It is synonymous with monster, and can be used as an insult in that way.

Typically though, one wouldn't call a natural beast a shyling. It evokes more the sort of monsters that seem more unnatural than, say, a common bear.
