A character's true name is the first name given to them at birth.

When a true name is invoked, it gives the invoker power over the character.

Invocation

Invoking a true name is as simple as knowing a character's true name, and speaking it aloud in the presence of that character. Once the name is spoken aloud, if the invoker has higher Erudition than their target then the target character falls under their thrall. They will feel compelled to do whatever the invoker has commanded them to do, regardless of any moral or practical compunctions on the matter.

Oaths

When someone swears something by their true name, they are bound to that oath in perpetuity. They can never break the oath, unless the person they swore the oath to releases them from the oath.

Oaths cannot be made to someone who is Soulless.

Conflicting Commands

If someone has been given conflicting commands, then the person whose true name has been invoked is able to ignore both and act freely, irregardless of those two specific commands.

If someone has been made to swear conflicting oaths, then the power of both oaths are broken.
